Why a student visa?
A straightforward application process
A student visa is a convenient and straightforward way to start a new life in Spain. The application process is fairly simple, and once you have completed your studies, you can easily switch to a different type of residence permit without having to leave the country.
Minimum financial requirements
A student visa requires a much smaller financial outlay compared to other types of visas. The cost of processing the application and proving financial means is lower, and the list of required documents is shorter.
No age restrictionsNo age restrictions
You can study in Spain at any age. The country welcomes students of all ages, whether you’re 16 or 60. It’s never too late to learn.
The opportunity to work whilst studying
A student visa allows you to work legally for up to 30 hours a week whilst studying. You can combine your studies with an internship and part-time work at a Spanish company.
Moving house with the family
If you’re planning to move to Spain with your family, a student visa is an excellent option. You can bring your spouse, children and even pets with you.

The third most widely spoken language in the world
If you speak Spanish, you’ll never be alone. There are at least 400 million people across 20 countries who will understand you.
Who is it suitable for?
For language school students who wish to immerse themselves in the Spanish language and culture by attending face-to-face courses (minimum 20 hours per week).
Participants in further training or professional retraining courses at accredited centres.
Participants in unpaid work placements (prácticas no laborales) under an agreement with an educational institution.
Participants in voluntary programmes that serve the public interest.A straightforward application process
Requirements
The procedure is governed by the general rules governing matters relating to foreign nationals:
Organic Law 4/2000 on the rights and freedoms of foreign nationals in Spain.
The implementing regulations for the Act (Royal Decree 557/2011), Articles 37–44, which set out in detail the rights and obligations of international students.

The minimum amount is 100% of the annual IPREM (the Spanish multi-purpose income indicator). For 2026, this amounts to €600 per month or €7,200 per year. The funds may be your own or provided by a sponsor (usually a close relative).
Health insurance: You must hold a state or private health insurance policy issued by a company authorised to operate in Spain. The insurance must cover all risks, have no excess (sin copagos) and remain valid for the entire duration of your stay.
