Who is it suitable for?
Residence permit for a professional placement (for graduates)
This is a full-fledged residence permit that enables recent university graduates to undertake a professional internship in Spain.
University graduates who obtained a higher education qualification (EQF Level 6 or above, equivalent to a bachelor’s degree) no more than two years ago.
Students who are still studying but are undertaking an internship as part of a specific programme leading to a degree.
Who is it suitable for?
Study visit for an internship (for students)
This is a residence permit (not a permanent residence permit) that allows current students to undertake an unpaid work placement as part of their study programme.
Students at foreign or Spanish universities who are required to undertake an unpaid internship in order to complete their studies or obtain a degree.
Key legislation
  • Like the residence permit for researchers, this type of residence permit is governed by Law 14/2013 "On Support for Entrepreneurs". This means that applications are processed under an accelerated procedure through the UGE-CE unit.
Requirements
To obtain this visa, you must demonstrate the purpose of your visit and that you have sufficient funds.
Education: Hold a higher education qualification obtained no more than two years ago, OR be enrolled on a course leading to such a qualification.
Internship agreement: You must have a signed internship agreement (convenio de prácticas) or an internship contract (contrato de trabajo en prácticas) with a Spanish company or organisation.
Relevance of the placement: The placement programme must be relevant to the candidate’s field of study and level of education.
Financial eligibility: You must demonstrate that you have sufficient funds to cover your living expenses (at least 100% of the IPREM – €600 per month for 2026) if the placement is unpaid or the remuneration is below this level.
Health insurance: Ensure you have a policy with comprehensive cover.
No criminal convictions in the last 5 years.

Application (Form MI-T) submitted by the company.
A valid passport.
A diploma (or certificate of study) bearing an apostille and a certified translation.
An internship agreement or contract signed by both parties.
Certificate of good conduct with an apostille and translation.
Proof of insurance and financial means.
Receipt for payment of stamp duty.

Application procedure

The employer submits the application online via the UGE-CE platform.

  • Consideration:

    The deadline is 30 working days.
  • Obtaining a visa/residence permit:

    • If you are outside Spain: Once your application has been approved, you must apply for a visa at the Consulate.
    • If you are legally resident in Spain: You can apply directly and, once your application has been approved, proceed straight away to collect your card.
  • Applying for a TIE card:

    You must provide your fingerprints to the police within one month of your arrival or approval.

  • It is governed by the general regulations on matters relating to foreign nationals (Organic Law 4/2000 and Royal Decree 557/2011), in the same way as standard student accommodation.

Requirements for stays of more than 180 days: A certificate of good conduct and a medical certificate.
