Who is it suitable for?
Non-EU foreign nationals who:
They are seriously ill and require treatment that is not available in their home country.
They are victims of domestic violence committed by a Spanish national, a resident or a member of their family.
Faced a serious threat to their life, health or freedom in their own country.

Requirements
A residence and work permit is issued for one year, with the option of renewal.
Medical grounds: An official medical certificate confirming the need for treatment and the impossibility of receiving it in the patient’s home country.
Victims of violence: Court or police documents confirming the incident of violence.
Good character: No criminal record.

Application procedure

  • Gathering documents:

    A complete set of documents confirming exceptional humanitarian circumstances (e.g. serious illness, inability to return due to danger).
  • Submitting an application: 

    Submission of the application (Official Form EX-10) in person by the applicant or by their representative to the Foreigners’ Office (Oficina de Extranjería) in the applicant’s place of residence.
  • Review: 

    Awaiting a decision Extranjería. The official processing time is 3 months. If no decision is made within 3 months, "administrative silence" (silencio negativo) applies, which legally constitutes a refusal. An appeal is required.
  • Obtaining permission: 

    If the application is successful, the applicant will be granted a residence and work permit valid for 1 year.
  • Renewal: 

    The option to extend for subsequent periods (of one year each) provided the reasons for the grant remain valid.
